Fair Play: A Game-Changing Solution for When You Have Too Much to Do (and More Life to Live)

Borrow for 1.-CHF/week

This book addresses the imbalance that can often occur between partners as far as the division of tasks goes. The author’s approach suggests looking at all of the tasks that need to be done in the household, with kids, extended family, etc and dividing them up. Each task has to be taken over completely by one partner (i.e., if it is your task to cook on weeknights it is also your job to make sure you plan the meal, do the shopping, and prepare the meal at a time that you have agreed works for your family). This method strives to assign not only the physical task but the mental load associated with it to one person entirely. There is a card deck with common tasks that you can physically split up. The idea is not to divide tasks 50/50, but in a way that makes sense for your relationship at the moment and feels fair to both parties.

Recommended for…

I can definitely recommend this to couples who are working to redefine their roles and tasks after becoming parents. I read the book myself, shared excerpts with my husband, explained the concept and we went through the deck of cards together. I thought it was a very good conversation starter and a good step towards recognizing a lot of the tasks that previously weren’t ‘seen’.
