There are a lot of things to think about and anticipate when you are expecting another child. How do you explain what's going on to your older child in a way they will understand? What are their expectations of getting a sibling?
Books are an excellent way to start a conversation with young kids on the topic of becoming a big brother/sister. Below are some of my favorites:
A Pocket full of kisses
"A pocket full of kisses" by Audrey Penn, illustrated by Barbara L. Gibson is the sequel to the beloved children's book "The kissing hand". In the original, a mama raccoon gives her child kisses on their palm to remind them of her love when they are apart. In the sequel the raccoon gets a baby brother and is shocked that his mother is giving away his kisses to his brother. It's a beautiful story about how spreading love does not diminish it.

Little Big Girl
"Little Big Girl" by Claire Keane is a cute book about a big sister who feels both big and little at the same time. She's becoming a big sister, but still feels small in such a big world. It's a great book to discuss how your child might be feeling quite big now that they are a big brother/sister but it's okay to also feel small and want to be held and cuddled and comforted like a baby.

My New Baby
"My New Baby" illustrated by Rachel Fuller is a very basic board book for toddlers. It has comparisons between what the baby does and what the big kid does. There is very little text and creates a great starting point for conversations.

Hello in There! A big sister's book of waiting
"Hello in there! A big sister’s book of waiting" by Jo Witek, illustrated by Christine Roussey is a cute story of a girl awaiting the arrival of their baby brother or sister, imaging what they will look like, what they will do together, and what they are doing in the belly. This is a flap book which is another sure winner for young kids.

9 Months
"9 Months" is by Courtney Adamo and Esther van de Paal, illustrated by Lizzy Stewart. This one has a lot more words and explanations which makes it ideal for older kids. You could read different sections throughout pregnancy as it is divided into the different months and what is happening with baby inside the womb, what mom might be feeling, and some 'fun facts' along the way.

The Way I Feel
"The Way I Feel" by Japan Cain isn't strictly about siblings, but it's a great book about feelings. What feelings are there and what could those look like? This is a great book to start a discussion with your toddler about feelings in general and specifically about what feelings might come up with a new sibling.
